Blackberry Hollow Campout
High Ridge, MO
October 3-5, 2014
On Friday 2 scouts and 2 adults camped overnight on Shippey Field. On Saturday 7 venture scouts and 6 adults backpacked on the 5 mile Red Trail to Blackberry Hollow. The fall weekend weather was near perfect with temperatures staying in the 40s and 50s. The sky was mostly clear with winds a little on the breazy side. The trail became overgrown once we descended from the ridge hiking towards Blackberry Hollow. Passage was difficult in a few places due to down trees. The campsite looked to have had little use over the last year. There was a huge supply of firewood though and after a little while a comfortable fire was blazing. The crew ate pasta for dinner that really hit the spot. The evening was calm and mostly quiet except for some snoring and the occasional snort of a deer and cry of a bobcat.
Everyone had a great time and are looking ahead to the next trip. The next backpack / camping trip is scheduled for November 28 & 29 at Hawn State Park on the 10 mile Whispering Pines Trail.
