The Gibbs family did a first class job coordinating the court of honor and assembling all Kyle’s awards photos and memorabilia from his years of scouting. (Click on “Read More” below for more photos and text from Kyle’s Eagle Court of Honor!)
Kyle started down the scout trail in 2004 as a Tiger Cub in first grade. He completed Cub Scouts as a Webelos II in fifth grade earning the Arrow of Light, the highest rank in Cub Scouts. While a Cub Scout he also earned two religious awards, the Light of Christ and the Parvuli Dei metals. Kyle earned 29 sports and academic belt loops and 16 sports and academic pins while in Cub Scouts. Kyle also earned all 20 Webelos Activity Pins, earning him the Webelos Super Achiever award. As a Cub Scout he attended several camping events: Dad and Lad, Mom and Me, Webelos minicamp, Webelos week long camp, a Fall Pacao, 3 pack campouts, and 4 summer day camps.
In fifth grade, Kyle crossed over to Boy Scout Troop 161 and became a member of the River Rat Patrol. Kyle has held the following leadership positions within the troop:
Chaplains Aid, Order of the Arrow Troop Rep, Assistant Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant Scout Master, which is his current troop position.
Kyle earned the Mile Swim award at his first summer camp. During his second summer camp he was selected as an Ordeal candidate at the Order of the Arrow ceremony. The Order of the Arrow is the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts. He became an Ordeal member at the OA Fall Reunion later that year. One year later he became a Brotherhood member. During his third summer camp, Kyle was awarded the Famous Eagle Silver Bullet award for expert marksmanship in rifle shooting. (Who knew that all those hours playing 007 on Xbox would pay off?)
Kyle has accumulated 40 nights of Boy Scout camping with 4 week long camps and the balance of weekend camping trips.
So far Kyle has earned 26 merit badges, 8 working solo, 15 earned at summer camps, and 3 at workshops.
At the age of 16, Kyle has earned his Eagle Rank and we look forward to his continued leadership in Troop 161.
