    December 19-20, 2015

Boy Scout Grayson West of Troop 161 is a life-long supporter of rescue organizations, along with his family, so it was no surprise that he chose to focus his Eagle Project on helping animals in his own community. Grayson, with the help of his carpentry mentor and Venture Crew 2161 Associate Advisor, Larry Cain, as well as many fellow scouts, adult leaders, and family volunteers, Grayson's project became a reality. Earning his Eagle rank has been a life-time goal for Grayson during his 10 years of active scouting, and the Eagle Project is one of the final steps in his journey.

The Crestwood Animal Shelter, located within Whitecliff Park, is the beneficiary of Grayson's Eagle Project. When approached and asked what could really benefit the shelter's cats and dogs, VP Mary Balles replied, "a donation chest so that people can donate to the shelter anytime".

The shelter is run 100% by volunteers and serves the community with the help of fundraising, monetary and in-kind donations. In the past, the only way for people to donate much needed items was to drop them off during limited volunteer hours. Now the community can donate anytime that's convenient for them, hopefully encouraging even more donations for the shelter.

Ryan, manager of Sunset Hills Home Depot generously donated 100% of the materials needed to build the donation chest. Don Greer, Owner of Signarama, kindly supported the project by donating both signs for the chest. "It takes a village... and our village came through in the strongest of ways. It makes me proud to be a St. Louisan and a Scout."

You, too, can help support the Crestwood Animal Shelter, a 501(c)3 organization, by donating: paper towels, dog/ cat beds, dog/cat treats, perfume-free laundry detergent, non-clumping kitty litter, and monetary donations.

On Saturday November 21, St. Louis area scouts braved the snow and cold to collect an estimated 1,955,525 donated food items for St. Louis food banks. At Mehlville Fire House #5, Troop 161 and Crew 2161 scouts assisted in boxing the food collected in their local neighborhoods. Our scouts and parents helped box approximately 1475 cases of food at this location. Thanks for all that participated in this annual project to help those less fortunate.

    Venture Crew Weekend
    Apple Creek, MO
    September 25-27, 2015

This Venture Crew weekend included camping, fishing and a visit to the Perry County Fair. We camped Friday and Saturday nights at the Schnurbusch Farm in Apple Creek, Mo. The nights were very pleasant. There was no shortage of wood to burn in the campfire.

The fishing at Schnurbusch Pond was very successful. The group caught a “nice mess” of largemouth bass, while fishing in light rain Saturday morning. Chris caught the most (6 bass) using a Shakespeare ultralight with a Matzuo America 3" Rattlin' lure.

We ate pancakes and bacon for breakfast and chili dogs for lunch. We ate dinner at the Perry County Fair in Altenburg, Mo. Two favorites of the Fair were the mule jumping contest and the tractor pull contest. Thanks to the Schnurbusch family for their hospitality during this enjoyable weekend! Thanks to Amy Cain for the great photos!
