David's Eagle Project
St. Simon the Apostle
May 4, 2014

David's Eagle project installed 6 bollards at the access of the School and Church's parking lot. During school dismissal, chains will be hooked between the bollards to prevent vehicle traffic while school children are entering their cars. The goal of this project is the increased safety of the school children.

2 of the six holes were hand dug because of their location near buried utilities. Thanks to David and his parents and all who helped with this project. Thanks to the Strebler family for providing the tractor and hole drilling rig.

David's project was well received by the parish. (Click on "Read More" below for more photos of David's project.)

Congratulations to Eagle Scout Chris Cain.

Mr. DiMercurio did a great job with the opening and introductions.
Mr. Sandroni did a stellar job with the Eagle Presentation. Thanks to Jacob for administering the Eagle Scout Oath. Thanks to Father Mitch and Father Purcell for leading the opening and closing prayers. Thanks to all that helped with the reception. Thanks to all that attended.

Chris thanked his parents, scout leaders and coaches for their help along the eagle trail. Chris then presented his mentor pin to Mr. Sandroni.

The following is a portion of Chris’s scout history that was presented at the court of honor:

Chris became a boy scout on February 18, 2007.

Chris attended regular summer camp at S-F each year from 2007 through 2013. He also attended National Youth Leadership Training in 2009 and participated in the Ranger program in 2010. Chris attended Philmont High Adventure Camp in 2011.

Chris has a total of 131 nights of Boy Scout camping either in a tent or “under the stars”.

Chris earned 24 merit badges. Of these 13 were earned at summer camps, 2 earned at workshops, and 9 earned working on his own with merit badge counselors he had contacted.

Chris served as the troop scribe in 2008.
In 2009 he served as River Rats Patrol Leader and also began contributing articles featured as Chris’s Corner to the troop website.
In 2010 and 2011 he served as senior patrol leader. At this time the troop meetings changed from being adult led to a scout led format. Chris then served as junior assistant scoutmaster, mentoring the younger leaders from 2012 through February of this year.

Trivia Night
St. Simon the Apostle
February 8, 2014

Troop 161's 3rd Annual Middle School Trivia Night was a huge success! 135 kids from 5th - 8th grade filled 18 tables and enjoyed a fun-filled night of trivia. Highlights include the "Jelly belly tasting" and the "Name that song" round. Thanks to all the Boy Scouts and their parents who made donations, helped unload cars, set up, pop popcorn, sell pizza, work security, scorekeep and clean up. A special thanks to Mrs. Goldbeck, Mrs. Blittschau, Mrs. Ferretti, Mrs. Boning, Mrs. Shively and Mrs. Strebler for their coordination of the night. Mr. DiMercurio did a fantastic job of being the voice behind the mic. The second place winners were a table of 8th grade boys and our first place winners were 6th grade boys. We are looking forward to another great trivia night next year!

Cabin Camp
Lonedell, MO
January 31 - February 2, 2014

22 scouts, including 3 Webelos, and 10 adults attended this year's cabin campout. The weekend weather was cold and wet. The temperature hovered just above the freezing point at daytime and below freezing overnight. Persistent rain Saturday turned into sleet Saturday night. Scouts spent some time outside orienteering, gathering wood, and fire building. All had a great time. If you ask the scouts, cabin camp is one of their favorite annual outings. Thanks to all the parents that attended. Thanks to Mr. Strebler for providing the firewood and towing the trailer. Thanks to Mr. Moleski for providing the Philly steak, roast beef and turkey. Thanks to Mr. DiMercurio and Mr. & Mrs. Cain for food shopping. Click on "Read More" below to view more photographs of the weekend.
